Etteilla is a devised video burlesque show that follows the narrative and themes of the major arcana tarot cards. Using occult mystical imagery combined with experimental embodiments of gender performance and transformation, this experience and creative process is meant to be not only one of entertainment but also one that provides space for the meditation and introspection that has become linked with tarot cards themselves.
We created this piece during the pandemic; these dance pieces shot in New York made their way to my computer in the Dominican Republic, where I had the honor and challange of bring it to life, reflect the vibrancy that was brewing in a small studio in NYU. It was a cathartic oportunity where hours of editing were fueled by the passion, talent and creativity of these lovely artists and culminating in this, a piece with all of our hearts, an homage to expression.
